A kitchen, an open living area and a renovation each ask different things of the floor. Bring your plans, material selections and reference photographs to the conversation. We can discuss how much stone you want to see, the reflection you prefer and how the floor will meet joinery and other surfaces.

Polished concrete retains the character of the original material. Colour variation, aggregate distribution and existing slab marks should be part of the decision, not a surprise at handover.

For a new build, speak with us before the pour. A shared finish brief gives your builder, concrete supplier, placer and polishing specialist something clear to work toward. Structural decisions and the mix remain with the appropriate project professionals.

For a renovation, photographs are a starting point. Previous floor coverings, repairs and differing slab sections can influence the result. See what we assess in an existing floor.

Exposure describes how much aggregate is revealed. Sheen describes how the surface reflects light. They are separate choices, guided by the concrete and the room.

• Nil / Surface Polish. Minimal aggregate exposure, retaining more of the slab’s surface character.
• Random Exposure. A varied reveal of stone, generally involving approximately 1–4 mm of grinding.
• Full Exposure. A more extensive aggregate reveal, generally involving approximately 4–5 mm of grinding.

Depths are a guide, not a promise of a uniform result. Discuss a quieter, lower-sheen look or a more reflective polish with Irwin; the achievable specification depends on the slab. Understand exposure and finish terminology.

An indoor floor and an exposed alfresco area have different requirements. Pavilion gives exterior concrete its own specification. We can discuss how the two materials meet at a threshold without assuming they should have the same surface finish.
