One exterior finish. Its own character.
Pavilion is the only exterior concrete finish we offer. Grinding reveals the aggregate within the slab; acid etching gives the surface its outdoor texture. The stone, concrete colour and placement all contribute to the result.
It is a separate specification from interior mechanically polished concrete. We consider how the materials meet at a threshold while giving each surface the finish its setting requires.
Designed around the setting.
Tell us how the area will be used: an open terrace, a sheltered alfresco space, a path or the edge of a pool. Exposure to weather, water, drainage, edge details and the condition of the slab guide the conversation.
Texture alone does not establish a slip-resistance rating. Where a project requires a particular performance, agree the specification and appropriate verification with the project team. Read about moisture, use and slip resistance.
The Highton project.
Our Highton Pavilion pool surround shows the finish in context: exposed stone, poolside edges and a flush access detail. The photographs show genuine Slab Studio work and provide a starting point for discussing your own slab.
For a new pour, involve Irwin before the concrete is placed. For an existing outdoor area, send current photographs and details of any coatings or repairs so suitability can be assessed.
From the slab to the setting.
We assess the concrete and intended use, agree the scope, then grind and acid-etch the surface for the Pavilion finish. Edges, transitions, final protection and care are considered as part of the project.

Is Pavilion the same as ground and acid-etched concrete?
Yes. At Slab Studio, Pavilion is a ground and acid-etched exterior concrete finish. It is our only outdoor finish.
Can an existing outdoor slab receive a Pavilion finish?
It depends on the concrete, its condition, previous coatings, repairs and the intended use. Photographs help begin the discussion; the slab needs to be assessed before a finish is agreed.
Will Pavilion match my interior polished floor?
The concrete colour and stone can relate, but the surface texture is different. We discuss the transition and material variation rather than promising an identical appearance inside and outside.
