Grind & seal. An alternative specification.
Ground concrete, finished with a protective coating. An interior alternative when a mechanically polished floor is not the right specification for the slab or the project.
Discuss your project with IrwinThe distinction is at the surface.
With grind & seal, grinding prepares the concrete and reveals the material beneath. A clear coating then provides the finished surface. With mechanical polishing, progressively finer refinement creates the polished concrete surface itself, with appropriate protective treatment.
The two can look similar in a photograph but have different wear and maintenance considerations. Compare polished concrete and grind & seal.
Specified for the way the floor is used.
A renovation, interior fit-out or an existing slab may prompt a discussion about a sealed finish. We consider the concrete, desired appearance, foot traffic, likely spills and cleaning before recommending a coating specification.
Aggregate exposure is constrained by the slab. Sheen, colour change from the coating and the visibility of repairs should be discussed before work begins. A sealed finish does not automatically conceal cracks or differences between pours.
Allow for care and renewal.
The coating is the wear surface. Cleaning instructions, furniture protection and eventual recoating depend on the selected system and how the space is used. We discuss those expectations alongside the initial appearance.

Questions,
considered.
Is grind & seal the same as mechanically polished concrete?
No. Grind & seal uses a coating as the finished wear surface. Mechanical polishing refines the concrete itself. The appearance, specification and maintenance expectations should be compared before choosing.
Is grind & seal always the cheaper choice?
Not necessarily. Preparation, repairs, area, edge work and the coating specification all affect the quote. Future care and recoating should also form part of the comparison.
Do you offer grind & seal outdoors?
Our exterior offering is Pavilion: ground and acid-etched concrete. We discuss grind & seal as an interior alternative, separately from outdoor work.
