Concrete grinding. The right foundation.
Preparation with the finished floor in mind. We assess existing concrete and the next specification before agreeing the grinding work your project needs.
Discuss your project with IrwinBegin with what comes next.
Grinding is a stage in creating our polished concrete floors. It can also be discussed as a separate preparation scope before an appropriate coating or another floor finish.
Tell us whether the concrete will remain visible or receive a new covering. That decision influences the required surface profile and how the work should be coordinated with the next installer.
Understand the existing surface.
Old adhesives, coatings, local high spots and marks from previous floor coverings may need attention. Send photographs, the approximate area and any known history of the floor. The removal method and achievable result depend on what is actually present.
Grinding does not resolve every uneven slab, repair structural movement or guarantee a uniform appearance. Depth, edges, access and any material that requires identification need to be assessed before a scope is agreed.
Preparation and finish, coordinated.
For a visible concrete floor, we discuss aggregate exposure and the marks that may remain. For a coating, the proposed system determines the preparation requirements. Irwin can discuss grind & seal and epoxy options alongside mechanical polishing.
Share the location, available access and timing, particularly where other trades will follow. Slab Studio serves projects across Geelong, the Bellarine and Surf Coast, with a quote prepared for the agreed work.
Questions,
considered.
Will grinding alone give me a polished concrete floor?
No. Grinding prepares or exposes the concrete. A mechanically polished floor requires further refinement and finishing; a coating or another floor covering has its own preparation requirements.
Can you grind concrete after tiles or carpet are removed?
This can be assessed. Adhesive, repairs, damage and differences between slab sections affect the scope and appearance. Share photographs and information about the previous covering before a quote is prepared.
Can grinding remove every mark or make any slab level?
No. The concrete and the required depth of removal set practical limits. Local high spots may be assessed, but wider level changes, movement or structural concerns can require a different solution.
